Certified Traffic Control Person Course

Sector: Construction Safety

This legislated, 1-day course is developed, regulated and administered by the Nova Scotia Government's Department of Transportation and Active Transit (DOTAT).

The course is required to work as a Traffic Control Person in Nova Scotia. It is a hands-on course with equipment, including a stop and slow paddle, personal protective equipment, and a model road complete with signs and vehicles. Topics include personal protective equipment, stop and slow paddle, position on the road, signalling procedures, emergency vehicle awareness, and night-time equipment.

Individual exams are required by the DOTAT. Shared testing is not permitted.

Trainer(s): Nicole Lantz is a certified trainer and can provide training on site at your office, firehall, or classroom. Nicole is happy to teach smaller classes if you would like more individualized support for learning, but can accommodate larger groups by collaborating with Yvonne Lantz of Lantz Safety Training.  

Pre-requisiteParticipants must be at least 16 years old.

The OH&S Act Course familiarizes participants with the act and its applications in a variety of workplaces. Topics include employer & employee duties, OH&S policy & program, requirements of Safety Committees or Representatives, the right to refuse work, and industry codes of practice.

Certified Temporary Workplace Signing

Sector: Construction Safety

The Temporary Workplace Signing Course (TWS) is a 2-day, legislated course. It is developed, regulated, and administered by the Department of Transportation and Active Transit (DOTAT).  

This course is required to work as a Temporary Workplace Signer in Nova Scotia. Students learn to navigate and apply principles of the Temporary Workplace Traffic Control Manual. Road setups are demonstrated on a model road complete with signs and vehicles. Topics include responsibilities of a Signer, components of a temporary workplace, making decisions for road type, work duration, and encroachment, sign descriptions, and choosing signing procedures for construction and utility. 

Individual written exams are required by the DOTAT. Shared testing is not permitted.
